The Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance (DISC) model measures and analyzes behavioral styles; that is, a person's manner of doing things. It does not measure intelligence, education or skill. The DISC also makes a distinction between nature (inherent behavior) and nurture (our upbringing).
The DISC model is based on the psychology of Carl Jung and William Moulton Marston. It is now a universally used behavioral model with applications to communications, sales, team building, time management, leadership, conflict resolution and interpersonal relationships.
There are four factors measured:
Dominance: how you respond to problems and challenges
Influence: how you influence others to your point of view
Steadiness: how you handle change and how you pace yourself
Compliance: how you handle rules and procedures set by others
And there are four categories per factor:
- Pace of speech and action
Other discussion points within the narrative of the instrument include: communication tips, general characteristics, perceptions, ideal environment, natural and adaptive styles, and areas for improvement.
